IKTA-2000
Determination of object-subsequential area precipitation
with radar creation of precipitation-runoff model
A The experimental area: valley of river Körös,
south-east of Hungary. |

|

|
| The origin of the problem:
highly flood dangerous area, the run-off time is very short, often
6-12 hours.
|
 (Körös
valley, 1981.) |
| The water catcher area is situated in
2 countries: Hungary and Romania. The number of the gauges are very
few, first of all on the Romanian side. The periodicity of the report
(out of standby) are 12-24 hour.
|

|
| The only solution is the usage of remote
sensing methods: meteorological radar and satellite. For quantitative
purposes only the radar.
|
 |
|
At the KÖVÍZIG (Körös
Valley District Water Authority) there are (in a off-line operation)
WEFAX satellite and digitised radar systems. |
| The main goal is evaluating of a method
for issuing flood warnings with an acceptable accuracy, in night
time in automatic regime. From informatics side should be developed
a hardware-software system for complex processing of radar, satellite
and surface observation data, partly in automatic regime. From hydrological side are necessary the high resolution
precipitation amount maps based on few surface observations, and
the prediction of dangerous flood situations based on these maps
and run-off models.

|
| The usual radar calibration methods in
these circumstances can give a limited accuracy. The solution is:
raising the intelligence level of the processing system. The precipitation
is regarded as a result of precipitation object, characterized by
several physical parameters. By the aid of the object the characterisation
of the precipitation process is much better. The main targets are:
objects identification, parameterisation and calibration.
|
 |
| In the research after a significant development
of the previous hardware-software system, we had an intensive observation
and data collection period from 01. 12. 2000. to 30. 11. 2001. In
this period all of possible radar, satellite and surface observed
data were collected in a database and were archived. The development
and testing of the methods are based on that.

| For the developing of the object processing,
an interactive image processing system were evaluated. All of the
data are displayed in the same geographical projections in movie
loops for the processing. The categories and the parameters of the
objects are evaluated step by step during the research.

the resolution of 1 km) are the input of the run-off models.
